Maui Regions

The west side of Maui is abuzz with action and adventure. The Kaanapali coast offers great water sports and beach activities, while nearby Lahaina offers excellent shopping venues, restaurants, bars, and entertainment.

• Snorkel at Kapalua Beach and look for humuhumunukunukuapuaa.
• Stroll through historic Lahaina Town and marvel at the U.S.’s largest Banyan Tree.
• Watch the surfers rip up the big waves in Honolua Bay.
• Go on a whale watching boat tour off the coast of Kaanapali.
• Ride the authentic, 1890’s Sugar Cane Train and learn about Maui’s rich plantation-era history.

CENTRAL MAUI

Serving the island’s working community, Central Maui is home to the island’s main airport, Kahului, where many people begin their vacations. The historic town of Wailuku is also located here.

• Explore the historic Bailey House Museum to view 19th century artifacts.
• Head to lush Iao Valley and walk the trail to view the towering Iao Needle.
• Go shopping, grab a bite to eat, and begin your drive to Hana in Kahului.

SOUTH MAUI

Graced with several long stretches of white sand beaches, the south side shimmers with beauty. From world-class golf to sophisticated shopping, the spectacular southern coastline offers tropical living at its finest.

• Have dinner in Kihei and spend the rest of the evening dancing it off.
• Book a tee time in Wailea and golf some of the best courses in the country.
• Spend an afternoon at Makena and watch the sunset at Big Beach.

EAST MAUI

Quiet and mysterious, the east side of the island is home to one of Maui’s biggest scenic attractions: the infamous one-lane road to Hana.

• Plan a day to drive the narrow, windy road to Hana making frequent stops to enjoy the stunning dual views of ocean and mountains.
• Stop at Waianapanapa for black sand beaches and underground pools.
• Continue past Hana to Oheo Gulch to see beautiful waterfall-fed pools.

UPCOUNTRY MAUI

In the cool upcountry region of the island, you’ll find the quaint towns of Kula, Pukalani, and Makawao. You also find respite from the heat when you head upcountry. The brisk air is refreshing and the views are inspiring.

• Visit Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center in Makawao, filled with superb exhibits.
• Revel in the magnificent panoramic vistas from Ulupalakua Ranch.
• Buy fresh flowers or try sweet Kula onions from the local farmers.
